Since its premiere in 1997, the Elgrand has consistently held the top share of the high-end luxury minivan market, thanks to its spacious, comfortable interior, compelling styling and exceptional driving performance. The Elgrand interior features a spacious interior, creating a relaxing, living-room-like environment. Especially notable is the second-row multifunction centre seat that facilitates versatile seating arrangements and allows convenient walk-through between the second- and third-row seats even while accommodating eight occupants. The striking exterior styling makes a compelling statement that viewers will instantly recognise as being the Elgrand.

The Nissan Elgrand was first manufactured in 1997 as the E50 series, and quickly rose to popularity to become Nissan’s flagship minivan/people mover. The Nissan Elgrand was released in a variety of specs, including 7 or 8 seater variants, rear-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive.

The first Nissan Elgrand was also loaded to the brim with all the features you need in a people mover, as well as many optional and luxury features. Typically the Nissan Elgrand E50 will include ABS brakes, single or dual airbags, power sliding door, dual zone climate control, parking sensors, mutli-configuration passenger seating, with some upgraded models boasting single or dual display monitors, dual sunroofs, and a variety of leather finishes.

The E50 Series was available in four engine configurations over it’s 5-year life, with the following chassis variants:

A very rare variant high-roof camping model with long wheelbase was available in the FLGE50 (RWD) and FLGWE50 (4WD) chassis, with either the updated Petrol or Turbo-Diesel engines.

The Nissan Elgrand E50 series is easy to find parts for and maintain, due to the fact that it shares it’s powerplant with the Nissan Navara released by Nissan Australia. All engines listed above, with the exception of the 3.5L VQ35DE, were available in the Nissan Navara.

Building on the success of the E50, Nissan re-released the Nissan Elgrand in 2002 with the E51 Elgrand. With several styling updates, Nissan had now created a luxury people mover that could also turn heads.

Nissan kept all the good points of the E50 Elgrand and improved upon them, adding more luxury and convenience, and turning the Elgrand into somewhat of a technological showcase of what the company was capable of. Features such as:

  • Dual Sunroof
  • Smart Key Keyless Entry
  • Adaptive Front Lighting System to follow the direction of cornering
  • Twin powered sliding side doors
  • Reversing and Side Cameras
  • Dual Video Monitors with Remote Control
  • Highly Configurable 7-8 person seating with Heated Seats and swivelling Captains Chairs

Updated powertrain options were available for the E50, with a new 5-Speed Automatic gearbox with Manual Gear selection:

With the latest release of the Elgrand, the E52, Nissan refined and improved on almost every point which made the previous models crowd-pleasers. From the refreshed exterior styling to the feature-packed interior, everything possible was done to make life easier, more comfortable and more stylish for both driver and all 7 of the passengers!

Adding to the swiss army knife of luxury gadgets, Nissan introduced many new ground-breaking features in the E52 Elgrand, such as:

  • Around View camera system, which use cameras on all sides of the car to create a ‘bird’s eye view’ of the area surrounding the car, making parking and navigating obstacles a breeze
  • Parking assist using the Around View system to guide the driver while parking
  • Radar Cruise Control and Collision Avoidance System
  • Powered passenger seats with one-touch folding
  • Powered Tailgate
  • Improved active safety measures with Traction Control, Stability Control, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, and multiple airbags throughout the cabin
